Gooey Caramel Brownies

This is my favorite brownie recipe, and it is so simple. Instead of using a regular boxed brownie mix, it calls for a boxed chocolate cake mix. The layer of gooey caramel in the middle is so good!

Caramel Brownies
from VeryBestBaking.com

1 pkg (18.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
1 cup chopped nuts (I don't like nuts, so I usually omit these)
1 cup evaporated milk, divided into 2/3 cup and 1/3 cup
8 tbsp (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted
35 (10 oz pkg) caramels, unwrapped
2 cups (12 oz pkg) semi-sweet chocolate morsels

Preheat oven to 350° F (*325° F if using a dark pan)

Combine cake mix and nuts in large bowl. Stir in 2/3 cup evaporated milk and butter (batter will be thick). Spread half of batter into ungreased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

Bake for 15 minutes.

Heat caramels and remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk in small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until caramels are melted. Sprinkle morsels over brownie; drizzle with caramel mixture.

Drop remaining batter by heaping teaspoon over caramel mixture.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until center is set. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into 24 squares.

  6. this is the most amazing & perfect brownie recipe I have found EVER! I have been on a personal mission for the last YEAR to make the perfect brownies. I literally make brownies at LEAST once a week, sometimes more, sometimes multiple batches. These are even better than the made from scracth recipes I have tried. I made 3 versions of these;the one listed, one with white chocolate in place of the caramel, and one with yellow cake mix & just semi sweet chocolate (in place of the caramel as well). My family has loved them all!! THANK YOU!!!
